What is the last mile of job readiness/preparedness?
The last mile of job readiness consists of answering two separate issues and is related to the gap between where education and most non-vocational/trade schools stop and what it takes for an individual to gain employment.
1. What do employers need? Within that last mile, we see employees routinely look for:
- Real applicable work experience, complete with knowledge of tools, processes, and workflows
- Soft skills training that is contextualized to the specific industry
- Industry certifications
- Up-to-date knowledge and skills that can only be achieved by agile and quickly adapting training programs
2. How do we match applicants to the right employers? To answer this question, the last mile consists of answers to questions such as:
- How do you match employers to the right applicants based on criteria outside of just academic prowess (personality, attitudes, etc.)?
- How do we de-risk employers when hiring early-stage talent?
- How do we increase the ROI received by employers in hiring early-stage talent?
- How do we accelerate continued upskilling of early-stage talent once hired?
- How do we increase retention once the employer has spent time and money to upskill the new hire?
